24
March 2001
Our first gathering of the year was held on 24
March on a warm Autumn afternoon in the home of Edith Morris in
Hamilton. Audrey Richardson, her husband Tom and polio friend Pam
traveled from Tauranga to speak to the 17 polios and friends who
attended from various parts of the Waikato and Hamilton. Laura Ladkin
ably led the proceedings and refreshments were served by Annette.
Norma told us how using a walker has helped
her to walk straighter and safer. Maurice excitedly reported how he is
more adventuresome and less fatigued now he has a mobility scooter.
Discussed again was the on-going problem of getting good service,
shoes, braces from the orthotic provider, with no answer in sight.
Unfortunately several friends have had ill
health, slight strokes, serious falls and were unable to attend this
time. However they expressed interest in attending future events and
the overall response is encouraging and positive.
